Giants Accidentally Declared Super Bowl Winners — CNN Image

The New York Giants jumped the gun a bit Saturday by posting a page declaring the team had won the Super Bowl on its website.

The page said the Giants were the Super Bowl champions and offered fans an opportunity to buy commemorative gear.

According to a statement from the NFL obtained by Bloomberg News, it's common for both teams playing in the Super Bowl to prepare websites in case they win. In this case, the URL accidentally became visible before the game.

Kickoff for Super Bowl LXVI is not until Sunday evening. The Giants and the New England Patriots will be fighting for the NFL title -- and the chance to sell hats and T-shirts.
