The Indiana Fever defeated the Minnesota Lynx 87-78 Sunday night to win the best-of-five series 3-1 and claim the WNBA championship.

Indiana won the championship in front of its home crowd, defeating the league's defending champions.

The Fever's Tamika Catchings led all scorers with 25 points and eight assists, out-dueling Lynx star Lindsay Whalen who finished with 22.

Catchings, who is a three-time Olympian, was named Most Valuable Player of the finals.

Minnesota never led by more than two points, while Indiana led by as many as 10.

The win is Indiana's first championship in the club's 13 seasons in the league.
