Free agent right-hander Rich Harden will miss the 2012 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The 30-year-old British Columbia native had surgery to repair a torn right shoulder capsule, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Thursday.

Harden detailed that he initially suffered the setback in 2007 - and then adjusted his mechanics to compensate for the injury.

"There's no reason, if I work hard, I can't get back to where I was before," Harden told the newspaper.

Harden posted a 4-4 mark with a 5.12 ERA in 15 games last season with the Oakland Athletics.
