Washington's Lawrence Out Until August With Torn Right Labrum
POSTED: Saturday, February 25, 2006
Viera, Fla -- (Sports Network) - Washington Nationals pitcher Brian Lawrence suffered a torn right labrum and will miss most of the 2006 season.
Lawrence felt shoulder stiffness early in the week, and an MRI on Friday revealed the injury, along with a lot of wear and tear on his rotator cuff.
The 29-year-old was acquired from San Diego in the Vinny Castilla trade last November. Lawrence had passed a physical before the trade was officially announced. The right-hander was expected to compete for one of the last three spots in the Nationals' rotation.
For his career, Lawrence has posted a 4.10 ERA in 162 games. He went 7-15 with a 4.83 ERA in 33 starts last season for the Padres.
