Armstrong Takes 24th At Paris-Camembert

UPDATED: 2:03 pm CST March 29, 2005

Lance Armstrong finished 24th Tuesday at the single-day Paris-Camembert race.

The Texan, riding for the Discovery Channel team, was part of a chase group that finished together right behind France's Laurent Brochard.

This was Brochard's third win in the 124-mile race. Armstrong was seven seconds behind the Frenchman.

Armstrong, 33, has never won Paris-Camembert -- and wasn't looking for a win Tuesday. He placed second in 2000, 13th in 2001 and 75th in 2002.

According to his official Web site, he was surrounded by a relatively young group of Discovery riders, including Fumiyuki Beppu, Tom Danielson, Ryder Hesjedal, Jason Mccartney, Benjamin Noval, and Jurgen Van Den Broeck.

Armstrong finished 43rd in the Fleche-Brabanconne one-day classic in Belgium on Sunday. He dropped out of the Paris-Nice classic earlier this month because of illness.

The Texan is scheduled to ride in the Tour of Flanders on April 3, as his preparations continue for a seventh Tour de France title. He told the Associated Press he Armstrong said he intended to support Discovery Channel teammate George Hincapie in that race.
