Team Plays First Game In New Stadium

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are home at last.
The team stepped onto the Toyota Center court Sunday night for their first preseason game.News2Houston reported that fans enjoyed the basketball game and were impressed with the new arena that the Rockets, Comets and Aeros will call homeFans seemed to agree that the new facility is accommodating for large crowds."There seems to be more bathrooms ... the seats have cup holders," Rockets fan Scott Wizig said.Wizig's 8-year-old daughter, Pauline, agreed."It's definitely nicer than Compaq Center," Pauline said. "It's bigger ... that's for sure."
Fans said they were impressed by downtown's new attraction."I like the way it is," Rockets fan Joseph Williams said. "It's looking lovely."The Konopka family, who holds season tickets, attended Sunday night's game."I think relocating it downtown is going to make it better for the city," Ken Konopka said.Konopka's wife, Donna, said the people who built the stadium did a fine job, and their son, Ryan, said he thought it was easier to watch the game.
The stadium food even got rave reviews."(The hamburger) was flame-broiled. It wasn't sitting in a foil package under a heat lamp," fan Belinda Ochoa said. "It was freshly made as I waited."About 10,000 people showed up for the Rocket's first preseason game in Toyota Center Sunday night.The Rockets next preseason game is Thursday, Oct. 16, against the Sacramento Kings.The new multi-purpose arena is 775,000 square feet and can set around 18,000 people, depending on the event.
