HOUSTON -- According to a report on Yahoo! Sports, Rockets guard Tracy McGrady is targeting November 18 as a return date to the floor. McGrady plans on lacing them up for the first time after 8 months of rehabilitation in Minnesota when the Rockets take on the Timberwolves.
The report quotes McGrady as saying he's "excited to get back and compete at a high level again. For a full year I had to play on one leg against the best and I couldn't compete with anybody the way I was feeling."
Earlier today, Local 2 Sports spoke with Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey and asked him about the possibility of McGrady playing sooner than after the November 23 date the team had scheduled for an MRI on McGrady's knee.
"I think we're just taking Tracy day-by-day," Morey said. "Once the doctors say everything looks good for him to go full-speed, and he feels like he's one hundred percent, we feel like he's one hundred percent, then he'll get out there.
"I don't think there's a specific day," Morey continued. "We did announce that day (November 23, for the MRI), because that was our best guess at the time, but it could be earlier, it could be later. I don't think there's really a timetable.
Morey went on to say there's no firm date one way or the other about McGrady's return.
"I do think he could come back sooner. It really depends on what the doctors say. For me, I don't think he's there right now, but I don't see him being that far away."
The Rockets are in Dallas Tuesday night to take on the Mavericks.
