HOUSTON -- The Houston Marathon set a record this weekend. Registration for the marathon and half marathon sold out in just two days.
Registration opened at midnight Friday for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon, which take place on Jan. 17, 2010.
By Saturday at 12:30 p.m., all 22,000 spots for both races were sold, race officials said.
Entries for the 2010 marathon and half marathon were split equally, with caps of 11,000 for each race.
It's the seventh year in a row that the event sold out. However, for the January 2009 races, it took 12 weeks to reach capacity.
The race director said, "Interest in the Houston Marathon race weekend is at an all-time high."
