Jason Garrett Among Those Interviewing for Broncos Head Coach
POSTED: Tuesday, January 6, 2009
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos plan to speak with Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett later today regarding their head coaching vacancy. Last season Garrett turned down head coaching offers from the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens for more than $3 million to come back to the Cowboys, it was subsequently assumed he would replace Wade Phillips when his tenure came to an end. Garrett, once praised as the next great NFL head coach, has seen his stock fall slightly after the once potent Cowboys attack fell to 14th in the league in scoring.
Meanwhile, Denver offensive coordinator Rick Dennison met with team owner Pat Bowlen today after expressing interest in the position. Dennison was a linebacker for the Broncos from 1982-90. He's been on Denver's staff since 1995, serving as special teams coach and then offensive line guru, before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2006.
The Broncos have already spoken with Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels while Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will interview tomorrow.
Bowlen fired Mike Shanahan last week after the Broncos missed the playoffs for a third straight season.
