Race To Cure Huntington's Disease In Sugar Land Saturday

POSTED: Wednesday, October 15, 2008

The 7th Annual Run to Cure Huntington's Disease presented by HCSS originally scheduled for September 20th, but postponed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, will take place this Saturday, October 18th at 8:00am in beautiful Oyster Creek Park in Sugarland, TX.

One of the Houston Area’s most competitive 5K runs, the Run to Cure HD will once again award the top male and female finishers of the race with the Shirley Whitley Memorial Championship which includes an expense paid trip for each winner to the Carlsbad Marathon in sunny San Diego, CA. in January, 2009! Also, this year’s race will be electronic chip timed so all competitive runners will have the advantage of knowing their exact finishing time.

The Run to Cure HD is also a great way to enjoy a Saturday morning for families with a non-competitive 5K run/walk, and the always popular Kids K.

When the running finishes the party begins. Runners that have participated in this race previously know that the Run to Cure HD features one of the best post race parties in America! With great food, cold drinks and the scenic beauty of Oyster Creek Park providing the venue, there is no place that you would rather be this Saturday!

Registration for both the competitive and non-competitive 5K is only $25.00, and the Kids K is only $20.00. Registration will be available on-site the morning of the race. For complete information about the run, go to www.runtocurehd.com.

About Huntington’s Disease Huntington's Disease (HD) is a truly devastating fatal, degenerative brain disorder for which an effective treatment or cure has not yet been found. HD is passed genetically and children of HD sufferers have a 50% chance of developing the disease, which destroys one’s ability to walk, think, talk, and reason. Affecting 1 in 10,000 Americans, who either suffer from the disease or risk inheriting it, it is estimated that as many as 55,000 Texans deal with HD’s devastating effects. Progress in research and treatment of HD also helps in other degenerative neurological diseases like Parkinson’s disease, ALS and Alzheimer’s disease.
