BEIJING, China -- Todd Rogers and Philip Dalhausser completed a USA sweep in the beach volleyball competition on Friday with a gold medal victory over Brazil's Fabio Luis and Marcio Araujo at the Summer Olympics.
On Thursday, Americans Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won the gold medal in the women's competition.
Rogers and Dalhausser, who lost their first match of the Olympic tournament to Latvia, settled down and rolled through the rest of the field. They lost just one more set the rest of the way before earning a three-set win of their Brazilan opponents.
The Americans needed 28 minutes to win the first set 23-21, before the Brazilians came back with a 21-17 win in set two. In the deciding set, Rogers and Dalhausser scored the first three points and nine of the first ten for a quick 9-1 lead. They put the match away by scoring the final three points, as Dalhausser blocked Luiz' attack shot for the gold medal point and a 15-4.
In the bronze medal match, Ricardo Santos and Emanuel Rego of Brazil defeated Renato Gomes and Jorge Terceiro of Georgia in straight sets.
