NCAA Waiver Approved; Decision Time For Reid
HOUSTON -- Former North Shore and Oklahoma State Quarterback Bobby Reid has a decision to make by midnight tonight. Late last week, reports surfaced out of Oklahoma that Reid had a potential option to play one season at Texas Southern if he decided not to pursue the NFL Draft.
Friday afternoon, the NCAA granted TSU an exception and Tigers Coach Johnnie Cole informed Reid and lawyer Brian Overstreet of the news.
Reid told KPRC Sports Friday afternoon, "Now I have no idea. Tuesday when we talked about TSU with you guys I honestly didn't think it was even a real possibility. Now I have no idea, it's a whole new ballgame now the NCAA did this."
Tuesday at his private workout covered by KPRC sports, Reid and Overstreet said the Texas Southern option was available but with Reid already graduated the focus and attention was on working out with fellow OSU teammate Adarius Bowman and private tutor Mike Sims and preparing for the NFL combine and April's draft.
Overstreet told KPRC Sports Friday, " This is really wild and we were not planning on this or really expecting it to become an option. Now it is an option of some form for Bobby. Coach Cole let me know about it, now Bobby has to make a hard decision by midnight tonight."
Reid, who is projected to be a late round pick but likely a free agent has received reports of his status. Concerns discussed Tuesday and in the reports that surfaced out of Oklahoma last week centered on the threat of injury and playing with a talent base not up to Big 12 Standards.
"Now I've got to make up my mind and I'll take it to the wire for sure," Reid told KPRC Friday. "I've got my projection stuff from the league and now this. Honestly, Randy (McIlvoy, KPRC Sports Director) I don't know what I'm going to do. I"ve got some thinking to do."
