HOUSTON -- The Houston Dynamo arrived home Monday with their second MLS Cup in hand, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Their plane touched down at about 10:30 a.m. and the team was greeted by dozens of fans.
"We need to support the local teams," fan Tracey Timpanaro said. "You need to show them that you care. I had to blow off work, I had to rearrange my whole entire schedule to be here today, but it's really important to be here for the team."
Team captain Wade Barrett proudly walked through Bush Intercontinental Airport, showing off the shining trophy.
The Dynamo defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 on Sunday, becoming the second team to win consecutive titles in Major League Soccer history.
The Revolution were on the losing side of both of the Dynamo's titles.
The Revolution scored the first goal of the game, but that did not cause any concern for the Dynamo.
"I don't think this team really lets doubt come into play," Barrett said. "You always want to get the first goal, but it didn't happen in this game. But it's a championship games and you can't put your head down if you give up the first goal. We did a great job fighting back and finally got this again.
The city of Houston is holding championship rally at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the steps of City Hall.
Mayor Bill White will soon collect on a bet he made with Boston's mayor. The mayors wagered 10 pies on the game. The Boston cream pies are expected to be sent to Houston soon.
