Top-seeded Florida, which faced a tough test from No. 9 Purdue in the second round, was tested again in the Sweet 16, this time against Butler. But the Gators, who are trying to become the first team since the 1992 Duke squad to defend its national title, pulled away from the Bulldogs late in the game to secure the 65-57 victory.

In Friday's second game, No. 3 Oregon downed No. 7 UNLV -- which upset No. 2 Wisconsin in the second round -- to advance to the Elite Eight. The Ducks were led by Tajuan Porter, who scored a game-high 33 points.

In Friday's second game, top-seeded North Carolina struggled against USC for most of the contest, trailing the Trojans by nine at the half. But the Tar Heels outscored USC 41-22 in the final 20 minutes of play to record a 74-64 victory and advance to the Elite Eight.

Last year, Kansas ended its season against a Missouri Valley team, falling to Bradley in the first round. The Jayhawks almost fell to another MVC team Thursday night as No. 4 Southern Illinois pushed the No. 1 seed until the very end of regulation. Brandon Rush scored what ended up being the game's final points to put KU up 61-58 in the final seconds. Rush led the Jayhawks with 12 points.

Kansas will meet No. 2 UCLA in the Elite Eight.

The Bruins, last year's runner-up to Florida, topped No. 3 Pittsburgh 64-55. Arron Afflalo led UCLA with 17 points and seven rebounds.

No. 2 Memphis extended its nation's-best winning streak to 25 games with a 65-64 victory over No. 3 Texas A&M in the Sweet 16. The Tigers, who trailed by five at the half, clinched the one-point victory with key free throws down the stretch. Jeremy Hunt led Memphis with 19 points.

In Thursday's second game, top-seeded Ohio State put together a second-half comeback to top No. 5 Tennessee 85-84. The Buckeyes were behind 49-32 at the half -- their biggest half-time deficit of the season -- but outscored the Vols 53-35 in the second half to grab the win. Tennessee had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but the missed layup attempt was blocked by OSU's freshman center, Greg Oden, who was in foul trouble most of the contest.
