ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and pitching legend Nolan Ryan was hospitalized Friday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Officials said Ryan, 59, was taken to the Round Rock Medical Center with recurring symptoms of a pre-existing condition. They did not specify the condition.
Avery Holton of the Round Rock Express said initial evaluations were normal and Ryan is in stable condition. He will be transferred to Houston for more evaluations.
"This is something I've lived with for the last seven years," Ryan said. "I appreciate all that Dr. Robins and the Round Rock Medical Center did for me. I'm looking forward to being in Houston next week for the Nolan Ryan Elite Pitching Camp at Minute Maid Park."
Ryan spent 27 years in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, the California Angels, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers before retiring from baseball in 1993. His 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters remain Major League records.
Ryan pitched for the Houston Astros from 1980 to 1988. He left Houston and in 1989 joined the Texas Rangers, with whom he finished his career.
Ryan was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
He is majority owner of the Round Rock Express and Corpus Christi Hooks, Triple-A and Double-A affiliates of the Houston Astros.
