Vancouver, BC -- (Sports Network) - Alexander Edler scored the game-deciding goal in the shootout, as the Vancouver Canucks edged the New York Islanders, 3-2, at General Motors Place.

After two scoreless rounds, Vancouver's Trevor Linden snapped a perfect wrister above the right pad and below the catching glove of Rick DiPietro. Miroslav Satan prolonged the segment when he deked Roberto Luongo with a forehand-backhand move. The shootout went to a sixth round, where Edler beat DiPietro and Luongo denied Trent Hunter to seal the win for Vancouver.

"I knew what to do but I didn't know if it was going to work on DiPietro because he's got the glove on the other side, and I've never tried that (move) before," said Edler.

Markus Naslund and Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks, who have not suffered a regulation loss at home since a 3-0 setback to Nashville on November 1st, going 12-0-2. Luongo made 26 saves as Vancouver recorded its second straight victory.

Bill Guerin and Blake Comeau tallied for New York, which extended its winless streak to four games (0-1-3). DiPietro finished the game with 43 saves.

"A factor in this game was their goaltending, which was really good," said Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault. "All four of our offensive lines were generating quality chances, and it shouldn't have been close -- but it was close. Give credit to their goaltender for an outstanding game."

The first period belonged to the Canucks, who outshot the Islanders 19-7, but Vancouver had only one goal to show for its dominance as DiPietro was phenomenal between the pipes.

"Honestly, we're lucky we weren't down 5-0 after the first period," said Guerin. "When you get lucky and you get a chance to win, you want to take advantage of it."

Naslund's marker at 9:22 gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead, which they maintained until the 6:26 mark of the second when Guerin negated an icing call and quickly snapped the puck on net from the right corner that found the twine behind Luongo. After a lengthy video review, the goal was upheld.

Off a broken play, the Islanders pulled ahead 2-1 at 2:58 of the third. Luongo ventured behind his cage to play a dump-in, but the puck got caught in his skates. Luongo inadvertently kicked the puck out front, where Comeau buried it into the back of the net.

"I went to stop it and then I couldn't find the puck, so I knew it was in my skates," said Luongo.

Vancouver tied the game soon after at 4:20 when Sedin toe-dragged the puck and snapped a wrister that trickled between the legs of DiPietro.
