Why I Became a Reporter, by Daniella Guzmán

I remember sitting on the couch at home with my parents as a little girl watching local and international news. I was fascinated about wanting to know more. I always wondered "Why?" and "What for?" My parents said I was a curious child and I was never shy to ask questions. Well, not much has changed because I'm still asking questions but now for a living.

It all started when I was little and I hoped by the year 2000 I'd figure out who killed President John F. Kennedy.

After traveling all over the world and juggling my life with sports, family and school, growing up in Sugar Land was always home. I'm a proud Ranger from Clements High School and proud graduate from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. I did internships and small jobs at advertising agencies, FOX 26, Univision, Telemundo, Televisa in Mexico and the Houston Chronicle.

As I went on a quest to find my place in the world of television, I didn't exactly follow a straight and narrow path toward TV. Along the way I did sales, advertising and marketing to get my foot in the door.

After a lot of prayers and frustration, I finally landed the gig I had dreamed of at KPRC in my hometown, Houston.

It's no secret I love my job, each day is an adventure, meeting people and listening to their stories. Now, I feel a greater responsibility as a journalist to be of great service to my community and help people understand what's going on in the world around us.

When I'm not at work, I love watching movies, cooking, travelling, shopping, going back to my parent's native country, "Bolivia and of course spending time with my family (my husband, dad, mom and brother Felipe). My husband Hector and I are big soccer fans, movie addicts and we enjoy running around with our puppy Sasha.

My motto I live by and I recommend everyone to live by is from an African's tribal way of living:

" Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up early in the morning and it knows it must run faster then the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must out run the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death." The moral of the story: "When the sun comes up you better be running!"

Daniella joined KPRC Local 2 as a reporter in August 2006.
