Jason Brewer joined the KPRC Local 2 weather staff in May 2006 as the meteorologist for the weekend evening newscasts (Saturdays on Local 2 News at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Sundays on Local 2 News at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.).
He's familiar with the demands of Texas weather having been the chief meteorologist at KOSA TV in Odessa. Jason has also worked at WTVD TV in Raleigh Durham, North Carolina.
Moving to Houston brings Jason one step closer to his hometown of Dallas. After graduating from Plano Sr. High School, he attended Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in earth science with minors in environmental studies and Spanish.
He earned his bachelor of science in meteorology at Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Jason considers forecasting the weather the perfect job.
"I get to talk about the weather for a living. I love the science. There are so many variables in meteorology. It's a challenge every day to assess what's going on around you, incorporate what you've learned from the past and then predict what you think will happen in the future," he said.
One of his proudest professional achievements is covering Hurricane Ophelia on the outer banks of North Carolina.
"To get that close to that much force is very humbling," he said.
Jason met his wife while working in west Texas.
"She was the anchor and I was the weather guy," he said.
The couple has two Labrador retrievers --one chocolate lab named Llano and a yellow lab named Miss Banks.
Jason loves to laugh. His favorite movies include "National Lampoon's Vacation" and "Dumb and Dumber."
Jason and his wife enjoy trying the many restaurants in Houston. Among his favorites is Goode Company BBQ.
"My buddy lived in Houston after college and took me there. I've been hooked ever since," he said.
When he's not forecasting the weather, Jason loves to ski (water and snow), travel, listen to music, cook, hike and throw the tennis ball with his dogs. He also enjoys golf.
