June 17: What's the truth about our economy?

HOUSTON – President Obama said last week that his administration has created 4.3 million jobs in 27 months and more than 800,000 this year alone. Is that truth or political spin?  Political experts join host Khambrel Marshall this week to look into the details about our economy WITHOUT political spin.

Joining Khambrel are Dr. Amy Foote, Senior Lecturer in Finance and Director of the M.A. Wright Investment Fund at Rice University's Jesse H. Jones School of Business. Dr. Foote received her Ph.D. in Economics from Fordham University, an M.A. in Economics from New York University and a B.A. in Economics and Managerial studies from Rice University. Dr. Foote analyzes some of  the latest numbers about our economy and gives her expert opinion about the causes of the slowdown and what will have to happen to get back on track.

Also on that panel is Dr. Brandon Rottinghaus, Associate Professor, Political Science at the University of  Houston. Dr. Rottinghaus received his B.A. in political science from Purdue University and his M.A. and Ph.D in political science from Northwestern University. His primary research interests include the presidency, the media, public opinion and executive-legislative relations. Dr. Rottinghaus analyzes what each party must do to overcome the real or publicly perceived  positions that may be standing in their way.

Also this week -- the chairmen of the Harris County Republican and Democratic parties weigh in on what it will take for their candidates to win this fall.

Jared Woodfill, the Republican Party Chairman says the Republicans have a great head of steam after completing their convention in Dallas last week and talks about the main even for Republicans this election season, the runoff between Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and attorney Ted Cruz who won 34 percent of the vote in the primary to force a run-off.

Lane Lewis, chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party talks bout what the Dems will need to do to win a state wide race for the first time in almost 20 years and the historic election of its first ever Hispanic chair of the state organization.

Don't miss Houston Newsmakers on Sundays at 10 a.m., right after NBC's Meet The Press.
