A police chase through northeast Houston ended in a crash Tuesday with officers finding guns and ski masks, KPRC Local 2 reported.

It began on Interstate 45 at Yale shortly before midnight when officers tried to pull a driver over for outstanding traffic violations.

The driver took off, reaching speeds up to 100 mph, according to authorities.

Officers lost the fleeing vehicle for a short time.

Kelley At North Loop

"The unit used caution on the freeway and ended up falling behind, so they lost them around the loop trying to drive safely during the chase," said Sgt. Jason Schilling with the Houston Police Department.

The driver who fled crashed into a pillar in the 1700 block of Kelley at the North Loop East.

Three people were inside the vehicle.

"It was a major accident. As they approached the vehicle, they observed the suspects had multiple guns inside the vehicle. Officers used extreme restraint and were very cautious and were able to safely apprehend all suspects involved," Schilling said.

Officers found four guns and ski masks inside the vehicle, police said.

The suspects suffered minor injuries in the crash and were treated at local hospitals.
