A North Texas youth football group has decided that trophies will not be awarded for participation, only for championship winners.

Our NBC sister station in Dallas, KXAS-TV, reports that the Keller Youth Association announced that players will have to win the league's Super Bowl in order to get a statue, and that medals will be awarded to the rest of the participants.

On KYA's Facebook page, the association says the participation medals will be going away and that they made the decision because the "KYA Football board feels that giving participation medals or trophies isn't sending our children the right message. Trophies are something you should strive for and earn."
