Young man shot to death outside apartment complex in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – A man was shot and killed Sunday in southwest Houston.

Residents at an apartment complex in the 8600 block of Sandspoint said they heard gunshots outside the complex and went to check on their vehicles when they saw a man lying on the ground, police said.

The witness told police they saw several people running but did not see the shooting.

"The best we have is that people saw people running from this area soon after the gunshots were heard," said Lt. W.L. Meeler with Houston Police Department's Homicide Division.

The victim, who is described as a man in his teens to early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found several bullet casings in the street.

No arrests have been made.

"We know that somebody out there probably saw what happened, probably knows what happened out here. They may just be scared to come forward," Meeler said. "You don't have to come talk to us directly. We won't come to your apartment. Call Crime Stoppers. Give us the information and let us follow up on it."

Police are hoping to find surveillance video that will provide clues.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
