HOUSTON – A young boy was injured Monday after a gunman opened fire at an apartment complex near NRG Stadium, according to police.
Police were called just after 11 p.m. to the Mainridge Apartments in the 2600 block of Westridge for reports of a shooting. Investigators said that from the parking lot, someone shot through the sliding glass door of the apartment where the 4-year-old boy lives with his mother and baby sister.
The boy was sleeping in a bedroom, and his mother was in the living room at the time of the shooting, police said.
The woman ran with her kids to a neighbor's house for safety.
"I heard some shots and my boyfriend talking about, 'That's firecrackers,'" said Trena Collins. "And then in ten minutes, my neighbor, she came running, talking about, 'Oh my God, my son got shot!' The baby came over there like he was in shock. He was full of blood. His head was bleeding, and then my son looked at his head and he was just cut up."
The boy was taken to the hospital with an injury to his head from the glass, police said

"Who would do something like that? I mean, that's crazy. Why would you come and stand in front of somebody's patio and then just shoot inside of their house," Collins said. "She has two small kids."
Police said the boy is now out of the hospital.
Police are investigating what led to the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
