HOUSTON – Summer is officially just around the corner and chances are your family may be hitting up the pool or beach to help stay cool.
That's why the YMCA is offering up some swimming safety tips. Last year alone, 82 children died as a result of drowning accidents in Texas. And this year, already three people have died in drowning-related accidents.

So the Y is offering up some safety tips like swimming with a partner.
"No matter how good of a swimmer you are it's always important to swim with a partner or a lifeguard in the area," said Palmer Hestley, YMCA communications manager.
The Y also recommends enrolling your children in swim lessons and designating an adult to be a dedicated "water watcher" when kids are in the pool.
