Wrong-way driver crashes head-on into vehicle in southwest Houston, police say

BELLAIRE, Texas – Police chased a driver Tuesday going the wrong way on 610 West Loop in southwest Houston.

Officers caught the driver of a green Mustang just before 4:30 a.m. after he crashed head-on into a vehicle, Houston TranStar cameras showed.

Officers were initially not able to get the driver out of the vehicle after the crash. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

It is unknown why the driver was going the wrong way on the freeway.\

All northbound lanes were closed in the area as officers investigated. 

The freeway was reopened around 5:30 a.m.

Police are investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
