Women save man being attacked by pack of stray dogs in southeast Houston

While paramedics rushed the man to a nearby hospital, animal control workers combed the neighborhood looking for the dogs

HOUSTON – A pack of stray dogs roaming a southeast Houston neighborhood attacked a man Monday, leaving him seriously injured.

Witnesses said the man, believed to be in his 50's, was walking along Lawler Street when a pack of seven dogs, mostly pit bull mix breeds, attacked, biting him several times on his legs.  Luckily, two women happened to be driving by and stopped to help.

"Thank God we were (there) to save him," Bonnie Miller said.  "(We) put him in the car to save him to keep them from attacking him more.  It could've really caused a serious problem."

While paramedics rushed the man to a nearby hospital, animal control workers combed the neighborhood looking for the dogs.

After several hours, six of the seven dogs were captured.  BARC officials said they will be quarantined for at least three days.  If no one claims them, they will likely be euthanized and tested for rabies.

Officials with BARC also said they've had reports of stray dogs in the area before but never an attack.

Crews will be back in the area Tuesday morning to continue the search for the remaining stray.
