Woman sought for allegedly stealing purse from shopping cart

HOUSTON – Galveston police are asking for help to find a female purse snatcher who had a toddler with her when she snatched another woman's purse in a Walmart parking lot.

Rosalinda Marines had just gotten a Coach brand purse as a gift from a friend and was using it during on shopping trip to the Walmart store in the 6700 block of Seawall Bloulevard Feb. 2.

She took a cellphone call while she was loading groceries in her truck and left the purse in the shopping cart. Her son overlooked the purse when he pushed the cart to a rack about four parking spaces away. When Marines looked up and saw her purse still in the cart, she sent him to retrieve it.

But another shopper beat him to the purse. Detective Hectors Dominguez said Marines watched as a woman rushed to "grab it, conceal it, and jump into her car and take off. "

Marines lost the $300 purse, about $60 in cash and all of her identification.

The suspect was photographed by store security cameras earlier inside the store. In the photograph she has a small girl with her in a shopping cart.

Police are asking that anyone who has information about the suspect or the theft call Galveston Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477.
