HOUSTON -

A woman was shot to death early Tuesday morning at a northeast Houston sports bar.

The woman shot and killed at a northeast Houston sports bar has been identified as Monsserrat Ortiz, 25, according to the Harris County Medical Examiner.

Ortiz' mother worked at the bar and was one of several witnesses to the shooting early Tuesday morning at the Las Palmas Sports Bar.

It is unclear why the unidentified shooter targeted Ortiz. Police said some bar patrons reported there was an argument between the two shortly before the murder.

A family member, who asked not to be identified, said Ortiz did not know the man who killed her.

That point and several others are still under investigation by Houston Police department homicide detectives.
One witness said the gunman threatened him before leaving the bar.

"I saw the guy face to face. He put a gun to my chest. I thought of playing hero at first and something stopped me and i moved out of the way," the man said.

Security cameras outside the bar recorded the gunman getting into an SUV that looked like a Ford Explorer. The video showed the suspect ramming a couple of cars on the way out of the parking lot.

Police have not released any information regarding the suspect's name or description. He remained at large Tuesday afternoon.

Video cameras inside the bar, not immediately accessible to investigators, may shed new light on the moments leading up to the shooting, police said.

Local 2 Investigates found citizen complaints about Las Palmas Sports Bar in 2012 and 2013 regarding underage drinking, underage bartending, drug use, and after hours liquor sales did not result in fines or violations for the bar's owner after follow-up TABC investigations.
