Vigil held for mother found shot dead in vehicle

HOUSTON – Family and friends held a vigil Wednesday evening to remember a woman who was found shot and killed inside her vehicle in northwest Harris County on Tuesday.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Jacinta Martin, 31, was shot around 12:30 p.m. on March Creek Drive near Cross Draw Drive. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area, then called 911.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Martin dead in the driver's seat of her vehicle due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said it appeared that the shots were fired from inside the vehicle.

Family members told Channel 2 her purse and other belongings were all missing from the vehicle.

“It’s very upsetting and frustrating,” said Angela Martin, the victim’s sister.

She said her sister was one of seven siblings. She was set to graduate from Remington College in six days, where she was named valedictorian. Martin was taking business management classes and hoped to one day open up her own business.

“She was everything to everybody, and if you knew her, you know her family meant everything to her,” said Monica Martin, another sister.

Jacinta leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. She was set to marry her fiancé toward the end of July.

So far, there are no witnesses to the shooting, and none of the neighbors reported seeing a gunman leaving the scene. If anyone has any information, call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
