Woman mugged, dragged outside Starbucks

HOUSTON – A woman was hospitalized after a thief pushed her to the ground and dragged her in the parking outside a southwest Houston Starbucks store, investigators said.

Houston police said the attack happened outside the store on the Southwest Freeway near Wilcrest about 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

Susan Turner, 61, was with a friend when she was ambushed, police said.

After the attack, Turner was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital. Rick Turner said his wife suffered a broken arm and a broken hip and is in extreme pain. He said she is not yet well enough to come home.

"They've got to figure out how she's going to be able to get around," he said.

The thief got away with Susan Turner's purse, detectives said.

"People are getting desperate nowadays," one shopper said. "It's scary."

Police said they are talking to witnesses to try to identify a suspect.

Susan Turner's attacker was described as being in his mid to late 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and 160 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
