Woman in custody as Galveston police investigate homicide at apartment

Kimberly Rayburn charged with tampering with physical evidence

GALVESTON, Texas – A woman is in custody after a man was found with multiple lacerations at an apartment complex, Galveston police said.

Officers were dispatched Friday to the 3900 block of Broadway for a disturbance.

Police said officers found Kimberly Rayburn, 39, covered in blood and screaming. Officers went into the building to an apartment and found Steven Ryan, 35, with multiple lacerations.

Emergency medical services took Steven to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Galveston police detectives and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office were called to the scene to investigate. Police said investigators believe Rayburn tampered with weapons used in the assault.

The District Attorney's Office recommended the charge of tampering with physical evidence and recommended a $50,000 bond, according to Galveston police. Rayburn was taken to UTMB for evaluation, where she remains in police custody.

Police said further charges are possible pending the completion of the investigation.
