Woman hurt after Shell gas station awning collapses

HARRIS COUNTY – Strong storms Sunday night tipped over the awning of a Shell gas station in northwest Harris County.

It happened just after 8 p.m. in the 16900 block of Tuckerton at Queenstown Boulevard.

Looking for a safe place to park and get out of the storm, two drivers decided to pull in to a new gas station to wait out the storm.

But strong wind and rain pushed the awning onto a car and a truck while the drivers and their passengers were inside.

Cy-Fair firefighters responded and they said a woman in the car was transported to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The Shell station had not officially opened yet. It was set to open this week, but it's unclear if that's still the case.
