A woman was hospitalized after a vicious dog attack near the Greenspoint area.
The dog that mauled the woman is in the custody of animal control. Neighbors say two pit bulls have been roaming the neighborhood since 7 a.m. Wednesday. The woman who was watching the dogs did not want her face shown on camera but said right before one of the dogs attacked her neighbor, the dog attacked her as she was trying to get them inside her fence.
"I hate that this happened like this, I hate this situation, I feel bad for her," said the woman.
At around 12:30 p.m., investigators say 46-year-old Celiflora Maldonado had just arrived home and was unloading groceries, when she spotted the dogs. She tried to run inside, but the male dog ran after her and started biting her arms.
The victim's 10-year-old nephew saw what was happening and ran to help.
"I opened the door, I got a sandal and I threw it at the dog, but the dog wouldn't leave so I went by the other window. I was screaming, help, help," said the victim's nephew, Justin Melesio.
Neighbors heard the woman screaming and banging on her front door trying to get inside.
"Blood-curdling screams, horrible, something you never hear," said neighbor Johnny Campos.
"She was coming from the grocery store, so she stepped out of the car with two bags in each hand, so she couldn't defend herself at all. She got bitten in her arm and her breast, she screamed, so her kids came out to try to drag the dogs away, but it wasn't very successful," said neighbor Abraham Enriquez.
Neighbors yelled and managed to get the dog off of her. They called 911 and Maldonado was taken to the hospital with bad bites and scratches.
