Woman hit, killed in Gulf Freeway crash

HOUSTON – All mainlanes of the Gulf Freeway have reopened Wednesday morning after a fatal crash.

The accident happened around 6:05 a.m. Wednesday along the Gulf Freeway southbound near Dixie Farm Road.

Officials said a woman was attempting to cross the southbound lanes in a construction zone when she was hit and killed. The driver was questioned by police and was released without charges.

At least two vehicles were involved in a crash after the woman was hit. One of those cars was fully engulfed in flames for several minutes.

Authorities said two people were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The freeway was shut down while emergency crews work to clear the scene. Officials reopened the freeway around 9:30 a.m.
