Woman fatally shot in SUV

HOUSTON – A woman was shot to death in a SUV in the Meyerland area.

Houston police said the killing happened in the 5400 block of Birdwood near Renwick about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Detectives said they think the 29-year-old driver had an argument with another driver in a Chevrolet Tahoe, who apparently opened fire on her car.

"The vehicle appears to have (been) backed up in an attempt to escape," Officer Matthew Brady said.

Investigators said the woman's SUV was still running when they got to the scene.

Police said they don't have any eyewitnesses to the shooting, but area residents said they saw the Tahoe speeding away after they heard three gunshots.

"This is somebody's child. This is somebody's friend, and she didn't deserve to die like this," said a friend of the victim, who requested not to be identified. "She had a heart of gold. She was a good person. She wouldn't hurt a fly. Anytime that you saw her, she'd be smiling."

The victim's name has not been released.
