HOUSTON -

Police say a woman is dead and a man was wounded after a shooting in west Houston.

It happened around 9 a.m. Thursday in the 11000 block of Colebrook.

Police say Alexandria Lynn Berg, 24, and Christopher James Davis, 29, were sitting in a vehicle in front of Berg’s home when at least one man approached them and fired several shots.

Officials say the vehicle was hit from both sides.

Berg died at the scene. Davis was shot several times and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Residents say it's a peaceful neighborhood filled with the families, but their sense of security has been shattered.

"We were inside. Just finished having dinner and we heard, 'Pop, pop, pop,'" said neighbor Jermaine Jefferson.

Several people ran outside after hearing the gunshots.

"When I came out here I seen the lady. She was just laying right there and I heard the dude on the phone talking about someone just walked up on his lawn and shot him," said Jefferson.

Neighbors described both victims as friendly and polite. They say the female victim leaves behind a young son, who was often seen playing in front of the home.

"It's sad because he's a very good young man. He's caring. The little I know of him, he's caring," Jefferson said.

No one at the home would speak with Local 2 about what happened, but because the man is expected to survive his injuries police hope he can help with the investigation.

Houston police say the gunman is a black man in his 20s.

Anyone with information in this shooting should call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
