Woman dies after van speeds through red light, causing collision, police say

HOUSTON – A man driving a van ran a red light, causing a collision that killed the passenger in the other vehicle, police said.

The man driving the white van was traveling south on Aldine Westfield road approaching the intersection of Tidwell Road around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The white truck sped through the red light at Aldine Westfield Road and Tidwell Road and collided with a couple in a maroon truck, according to police.

Authorities said the man driving the maroon truck was injured and taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His wife, a passenger, was also taken to Ben Taub Hospital, but later died.

The man driving the van was taken to a different hospital, but both men are expected to live, police said.

Police neither driver was impaired.
