A judge sentenced the woman convicted of stomping on her 5-year-old son and slashing his throat to 40 years in prison.

Daphne Spurlock beat and stabbed her young son in March of 2012. Police say she was trying to rid her son of demons at the time.

Her son lived, but had to spend nearly 18 months in rehab after the attack. He now lives with his older sister, Michelle, who was given custody of the young boy last year.

Spurlock's attorney had asked for probation. But the prosecuting attorney argues that since the child nearly died in the attack, probation wouldn't be the right punishment.
