The incident happened at an apartment complex on Fondren Road.

Police said Rhodes was talking to the child and convinced her to come into her apartment.

Police said when the girl’s mother went to look for her, she was told her daughter was with Rhodes. Officials said that's when the mother went to Rhodes’ apartment and knocked on the door.

Police said Rhodes’ male friend opened the door and told the mother her daughter and Rhodes were in the bathroom together.

The girl’s mother tried to open the door, but her daughter said Rhodes wouldn’t let her, according to investigators.

Police said the mother broke down the door, and that's when Rhodes and the mother began shoving each other.

Detectives said the mother was able to get her child out of the bathroom and call the police.

Police said Rhodes began acting irrationally and admitted to choking the child.

There are no reports of the child suffering from any injuries.

Rhodes has been denied bail.
