Woman apologizes for punching police officer in face

Kristen Campbell: 'I don't know what came over me'

LINCOLN PARK, Michigan – A woman was arrested after she was caught on dashcam video throwing a punch at a Michigan officer during a traffic stop.

The woman, Kristen Campbell, a passenger in the car, got upset when she found out her friend was being arrested.

Campbell doesn’t deny sucker-punching Lincoln Park Officer Patrick Cutler.

"I am sorry,” she said. “I told him that twice. I don't know what came over me."

Now, Campbell gives out hugs after spending two days in jail for the punch.

Cutler pulled the car over and determined the driver didn’t have a license. Campbell became verbally aggressive with Cutler while he arrested her friend.

"I'm tired of your mouth,” Campbell is heard saying. “Get the F out of here before I arrest you for the s--- you threw out the window -- for littering.”

Cutler responds, “Get out now or you can go too, with her!”

“You stepped on my (expletive) foot,” the woman said.

“You know what, forget it,” Cutler is heard saying.

He ordered Campbell to the ground, but she struggled. A bystander threw Cutler his handcuffs, which got lost in the scuffle.
“Let go of my handcuffs now,” Cutler said. “Take your hands off them.”

Police used a stun gun on Campbell three times.

“Put your hands behind your back,” Cutler said.

Campbell said she threw the punch because she didn’t know who grabbed her from behind.

“I swung back knowing he grabbed me because he didn't say anything,” Campbell said. “I didn't know who it was.”

A reporter said, “But he was in full uniform.”

“That’s true, he was,” Campbell said.

“But how did you not know?” the reporter questioned.

“I didn't see who was behind me, honestly,” Campbell said.

Cutler returned to work with a black eye.

"She started running her mouth and I told her she's going to jail,” he said of the incident. “I go to grab her hands and she turns around and got me with those rings."

Campbell said she realizes her mistake.

"I'm lucky to be alive,” Campbell said. “I guess the cop could have killed me.”
