HOUSTON – A woman is accused of biting a Santa Fe police officer.

Ariel Garrett, 27, has been charged with assault on a public servant.

On Tuesday, officers responded to a call about a dispute in the 15400 block of Santa Fe Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman arguing.

The officers tried to separate the two so Garrett could be interviewed privately.

When officers tried to restrain Garrett and during the incident, Officer Lino Garcia was bitten on the finger, according to police.

Garrett was handcuffed and taken to the Santa Fe Police Department, where she was evaluated by mental health deputies.

Garrett's bond has been set at $5,000. She is being held at the Galveston County Jail.
