Woman, 23, arrested for sexual assault of 14-year-old girl

CLEVELAND, Texas – A 23-year-old woman is charged with sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl after a three year investigation.

The investigation began in 2010 when concerned parents contacted Cleveland Police Department in reference to a friend of their daughters. According to the parents, they had found what seemed to be love letters sent to their daughter from Brittany Morgan.

CPD was unable to find sufficient enough evidence to file charges at that time.

However, on Oct. 15, Cleveland police officers were called to Morgan's home at the 1300 block of South Franklin Street in regards to a disturbance.

While at the home, it was reported to the officers that "they believed Brittany Morgan was having sexual contact with underage females".

Detective John Shaver then reviewed past reports and evidence from 2010. Through his investigative efforts, Shaver was able to gather more evidence and establish that probable cause did exist.

Morgan was arrested on Thursday.

"It's believed Morgan's young appearance assisted her in being able to gain access to minors, which in turn led to her taking advantage of them", according to Detective Shaver.

Officials say if more evidence or victims surface in the case it could later lead to further charges.

Morgan is currently being held in the Liberty County Jail.
