HOUSTON - You might know her as the wife of a legendary baseball player, but Houston's Debbie Clemens is making a name for herself in a new venture. She's started her own jewelry collection that's different just the normal fancy accessories and it all benefits Houston-area children.
"It's almost like now I have a little store," Clemens said during an interview with Local 2's Lauren Freeman.
Clemens creates a variety of jewelry, but her specialty is magnetic beads. She said she came up with the idea to start using the beads because she had a friend with migraines.
The magnetic beads are said to have healing properties. Clemens said her friend's headaches are now gone and now she has a new mission with her work.
"I realized I wanted to help healing pain," said Clemens. "It's a hard thing to overcome sometimes."
Clemens' jewelery is currently sold in three stores around Houston. She's also getting a little help from her husband, Roger.
The jewelry is also on sale in the former major league pitcher's foundation headquarters now turned boutique.
"She is my very creative half and she gets into it," Roger Clemens said. "She's very artistic. And like I said, there's some really cool stuff. She's made some for my entertainer buddies to wear on stage and they're really cool."
Roger and Debbie's four sons all wear her necklaces. Profits from the jewelry line go to the Roger Clemens Foundation, which provides assistance to children's charities and specifically children with special needs.
