Weekend traffic alert for east of downtown Houston

HOUSTON – Drivers can expect delays east of downtown Houston this weekend.

All eastbound lanes of the I-10 East Freeway between US 59 Eastex Freeway and Gregg Street near downtown Houston will take place over the weekend. The lanes will be closed so crews can repair the Meadow Street Bridge that was hit by over-height trucks earlier this year.

The closures begin Friday at 9 p.m. The lanes will reopen on Monday at 5 a.m. Drivers traveling eastbound on I-10 will be detoured via the Jensen Street exit to the I-10 eastbound frontage road and allowed to reenter the mainlanes of I-10 using the Gregg Street entrance ramp.

Other weekend road closures include:

The I-10 East Freeway entrance ramp from San Jacinto will be closed from Friday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

The U.S. 59 Eastex Freeway northbound connector to I-10 eastbound will be closed from Friday at 8:30 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

Also, the I-10 East Freeway eastbound entrance ramp from Chartres Street/Runnels will be closed from Friday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and consider an alternate route if possible.
