Weekend closure planned for reconstruction at Post Oak at San Felipe in Uptown

HOUSTON – The intersection of Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe Street will be closed from Friday at 7 p.m. through Tuesday at 6 a.m., to reconstruct the roadway through the intersection.

Uptown Houston is rebuilding Post Oak Boulevard into "an exquisitely designed grand Boulevard while creating a beautifully landscaped pedestrian environment, preserving existing automobile lanes and substantially improving transit service in order to address the continuing growth of Houston," according to the project's statement.

The Boulevard project will be completed in late 2018.

The plan will:

  • Preserve all six existing traffic lanes and protected left turns
  • Relocate buses to dedicated express lanes
  • Maintain current traffic signal operations
  • Enhance the pedestrian experience
  • Add 800 live oak trees, while preserving existing trees

"This is a destination Boulevard only Houston can build," said John Breeding, president of Uptown Houston District. "Many of our city's most beloved and finest architectural achievements, restaurants, residences and retailers call Uptown home and will have a magnificent, walkable Boulevard to match. We are passionate about creating an environment that will benefit all those who work, stay, visit and play along Post Oak Boulevard."
