Water restored at Hobby Airport after water main break

HOUSTON – A water emergency at Hobby Airport is over after a water main break left the airport without water for hours Tuesday.

Airport executives say an older water main just off of airport property burst Tuesday morning, and the main happened to be the primary water feed to Hobby Airport. Several services were affected and passengers couldn't wash their hands, so hand sanitizers were passed out around the airport.

The 12-inch water main ruptured at the Dover and Airport Boulevard intersection right across the street from the main entrance at Hobby. A spokesperson for the airport system says because of the water main break, water buckets were used to help flush toilets and there was no food service at all.

Public works crews finished repairs to the water main about shortly before 4 p.m.

Lavatory services and water for the planes are serviced with portable water trucks, so that's why flights were not affected.
