Water main leak floods east Houston street

HOUSTON – A water main leak in east Houston caused street flooding that forced at least one business to close Wednesday.

Navigation at Macario Garcia was blocked off when the water kept rising from a broken 30-inch main. Thousands of gallons of water spewed into the street, flooding the intersection between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

The owner of Super Chicken and Rice closed up shop when he smelled gas in the water from a nearby gas station.

The street in front of Fire Station 20 was also flooded but did not stop firefighters from responding.

Officials said a contractor may be to blame.

The city of Houston said it sent crews to fix the break.
