Bees cause danger for Baytown family

BAYTOWN, Texas – When Jessica Garcia moved into her Baytown home, she had no clue about the pesky neighbors next door.

The home next to her is technically vacant, but there is a constant swarm of bees on the side of the house. Garcia said the owner of the property believes there is a massive beehive between the walls of the home.

Last week a swarm attacked Garcia's dog and now she fears they will one day attack her 2-year-old son.

"I don't know if he's allergic and we've been told they're Africanized bees, which I know are not good," Garcia said.

She said the homeowner keeps making excuses for why he hasn't called someone to remove the bees.  She has also contacted the city, but because it's private property, crews can't just come in and spray.

"I'm just kind of desperate at this point," Garcia said.

Since Channel 2 News contacted the city of Baytown, a spokesperson said the health department is now filing a complaint against the homeowner. If he doesn't comply, he will be fined and the city will get involved.

Until then, the bees continue buzzing around like a ticking time bomb outside Garcia's home.

"When I come outside to my car in the morning, I'm always looking out to make sure they're not there because I just don't know anymore," Garcia said.
