Charges upgraded against man connected to deadly shooting at car dealership

Man originally charged with robbery

HOUSTON – Charges have been upgraded against a man arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a used car dealership in northwest Houston.

Derian Wilson, 23, is now charged with capital murder. He was previously charged with aggravated robbery-serious bodily injury.

Wilson and Lawrence Taylor, 21, are now both charged with the killing of Russell Soltani, 66, outside a car sales business in the 8900 block of Long Point non June 11, 2014.

Police said Soltani had just arrived at the dealership when he was approached by a man. Witnesses said two gunshots were heard in the parking lot. A man was later seen running from the parking lot carrying a box or container in one hand and a pistol in the other.

Wilson and Taylor were later identified as the suspects, police said.

Taylor was arrested and charged with capital murder a few months later.
