HOUSTON -

Rodeo Houston is officially underway, kicking off three weeks of good Texas fun.

It's the first day of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The cowboys are prepared for the rain and freezing weather.

"I'm very excited other than the weather. Ski gear, double socks, thermal underwear," said rodeo employee Shane Frazier.

Although it's wet outside some cowboys are even getting their boots shined.

New this year is an exhibit called We're Small Y'all Barn. It features miniature breeds of livestock raised in Texas like little pygmy goats and itty bitty horses and tiny donkeys.

"A lot of the animals such as the miniature horses have blankets and things on them, and they give them extra hay for their hay beds. And a lot of the animals have their own way to bring their body temperature up. It's just a normal body process," said Cy-Falls High School student Madeline Ortiz.

The sheep at the petting zoo came prepared for the cold weather. As always they're decked out in wool.
